Here’s my recommendation:
Choose whatever distro you like. Then use Toolbx or Distrobox, and run Ubuntu (or a compatible derivative) in that. You will have the best application compatibility, negligible difference in CPU usage (it will still be using your host kernel, settings, & resources), and a cleaner main distro of your choice. To keep your main distro even cleaner and more stable, use your choice of Flatpaks, Appimages, or Snaps on your main distro. Essentially you would be applying Immutable OS philosophy to a mutable OS, while getting the best of both worlds, using your favorite distro, and having the best compatibility.
I use Fedora Silverblue, but immutable philosophy can be applied everywhere.
Wouldn't SilverBlue make it harder to use plugins etc?
That's the axel I've been wrapped around myself.... not knowing the Linux components to take a distro I like (like Pop OS) and making it for music.
Everything feels segmented lately.
I installed Ubuntu Studio on one of my laptops for now.
