Hey Geoffrey,
I'm using Version 0.3.3 of the control panel. (I'm going to upgrade shortly.) I have a small (actually kinda large) issue that I'm hoping you might consider implementing in a future release.
I was trying to discover how to route my computer's audio to the second headphone port.
I have a Scarlett 18i20. What configuration I made was by using a Windows 10 virtualbox machine four years ago.
I found the Routing window and discovered the mess of virtual cables involved in my config. With the number of Sources and Sinks this device has, I'm sure you could imagine how cluttered it was. I also didn't realize how many changes I had made when I set the device up initially.
Not realizing what would happen, I selected a preset from the top-left drop-down and it instantly replaced my entire config with the preset. In the blink of an eye, all my hard work had vanished. Then it dawned on me... wait.. this must be a permanent change!
Unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot of the cables beforehand. Also because this was my first time playing with the control panel I did not have a saved preset file.
Suggestion: Have an undo button.
Better suggestion: Have a "are you sure?" confirmation dialog box. Have it say something like "Selecting this preset will replace your device's current routing configurations."
Betterbetter suggestion: Have it keep tabs on if the user has a config file. If so, check if the user has made changes since last saving and prompt to save the current config. If not, don't prompt. But, if no config file is found at all, prompt to save a new config file.
Part of why I did not expect changes to be permanent was because this preset drop-down seemed to be independent of the "Load Configuration" and "Save Configuration" menu options in the main window.
So! With that said, I'm currently preparing a Windows 11 Eval VirtualBox to set my device back up the way I did before. The reason I'm using that instead of your control panel is because I noticed that yours does not have the ability to plug multiple cables into a single jack in some instances that I recall was the case with the config I had. I'll follow up in a second post regarding that.
Thank you for all your hard work. I know this is a work in progress, so I'll keep in mind to be careful when using it from now on, and I'll help give feedback and suggestions as I go along. Thanks!
