In qjackctl, connect the detected hardware synth to the midi input, as in the pic, in my case the little IK Multimedia UNO, and in the audio panel, connect Reaper to the system audio. Pretty basic, so if you find a bargain on a synth with a great arpeggiator, latch mode, and sequencer, it's easy to use it to play your daw plugins or standalone favorites like Yoshimi etc And it'd great fun adding Yoshimi layers to the various arpeggios or melodies you cook up
