Just curious to know if some thing have evolved here?
But music production is a different story, so, I want to return to the JACK way
Is it still the case ?
It's hard to give a definitive answer. For some folks Pipewire is sufficient. For some other people there may be cases where - for whatever reason - Jack is more suitable, at least for now. (Reasons could be about setup, or hardware or weird software behaviour or whatever, it could be anything).
The good news is that one doesn't have to use one or the other only. It's possible to mix & match them when and where required, and if required.
You can have both Jack & Pipewire software installed at the same time.
You can run Jack, or Pipewire, or a kind of mix of both. You can switch between or the other with a simple script and well known tools like qjackctl.
It's fairly straightforward to get this working on Ubuntu or Mint, and I assume also for other mainstream distros.
For those who don't want it, it's easy enough to rip Snap out of Ubuntu or if you don't want to do that just start with Mint.
