@ asbak : yes, I said this in short.
@ Largos : thanks.
Got to blacklist the snd dice module (Same as with ffado before)
I never had to do this before, since kxstudio 12.04.
There are two firewire drivers you can use, the alsa and ffado. Alsa works without any changes. However, if you want decent latency, especially for monitoring incoming audio then it is horrific. You can still use the hardware monitoring fine. To use the ffado drivers, you need to blacklist the snd_dice module which alsa uses to interact with the saffire. That said, if you fared fine before without ffado, then just use the alsa driver, no effort required.
and create a config file for it to get the ffado working
Typically things we DON'T want to do as musicians. Pipewire is supposed to simplify! Things were more simple in kx by just install package and that's all. But I sincerely hope that it will end up really simplifying everything and that it will have the same performance as jack, very soon !
For what I have read so far, it depends of what (and how you) use in audio.

This is just a firewire/ffado thing. Firewire is old enough, that it would have been quite understandable for it not to be supported at all, so it's a bonus that it is.
