Also, some vsts install extras throughout the .wine folder, so putting everything in .vst can be an issue sometimes.
I use the defaults for complex installers, and link the .dll or .so as needed. Simple plugins go in
/home/me/.wine/drive_c/users/VstPlugins.
Yabridge finds them if directed, and makes it's own folder of links and wrapped .so files in the /home/me/.vst folder, or the .vst3 folder as the case may be.
