Thanks for the suggestion of the Saike Analyzer in Reaper. I got it working for 2 tracks after watching this video several times - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3haB4oCwMg . Couldn't do the same in Ardour with YSFX though; it works but the channel routing like Reaper has is not there. I can't use Reaper because, despite valiant efforts, I've never managed to get the fonts and scaling to a usable state on my UHD monitors.
So far the best option is LSP 4ch Frequency analyzer with the Reactivity turned up to max of 1second.
However neither of these shows separate peak history for 2 channels like the HOFA one. Maybe I'll submit a feature request for LSP.
Apparently the Plus version of Span ($50) can do it but it's not Linux native and I'm not going to spend $$$ for something I will rarely use.
It's an interesting diversion so far and not entirely fruitless as I've learned some new things.
