Recently Waveform (https://www.tracktion.com) reached quite high standards and usabilty again, and Linux is very well supported. Not all, but some of their instruments are also provided as a Linux version. Waveform by its last release including now their "Clip Launcher" as part of Waveform moved possibilities closer to what you know from Abelton Live or Bitwig and could quickly make you feel home.
Waveform is under intensive development and thus could be an interesting project for you. Maybe contact the developers and try to engage in the development of their Tracktion Engine, which drives Waveform, or the more general JUCE project, to which their developers are related to as well.
